Mike Wood, Xansa's Finance and Accounting (F&A) Shared Service Centre Director, has won the top award for his outstanding contribution to shared services at this months Shared Services Excellence awards.
The award was presented by Lord Coe in front of an audience of leading shared services experts and outsourcing specialists at the Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales. Mike's nomination fought off tough competition to win top honours in the Outstanding Individual Contribution to a Shared Services Organisation category.
The category considered individual qualities including leadership, vision, ability to innovate and overall contribution to shared services. Nominations were presented with a track record detailing where these qualities have come into play. Mike has 13 years experience in the shared services sector and his strategic role in pioneering F&A Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has helped some of Britain's best known companies such as BT, MyTravel and mmO2 save money, improve efficiency and add value by remodelling their F&A functions.
Fraser Winterbottom, Managing Director of Xansa's F&A BPO business and Mike's manager, was delighted with the win. "Mike has been exceptional for Xansa and we are really pleased that his work has been recognised by other industry leaders. Under Mike's leadership Xansa's shared services centres have grown significantly. Not only has he succeeded in delivering more value for our clients with improved process and IT integration but he's also built a fantastic and loyal team at our shared service centres who have really got behind his vision and are always pushing to be the best at what they do."
Mike doesn't keep this expertise to himself and he often shares his vision and insight on F&A BPO and shared services. He regularly speaks at IQPC and ICAEW events as well as contributing to journals like Shared Services News and Strategic Direct Invest. Mike also plays a very visible role in India in ensuring that Xansa's BPO presence is viewed as expert, professional and innovative.
Mike was flattered with the win but acknowledged that it was a team effort. "I'm honoured to take this award for an outstanding contribution to shared services. It means a great deal to be recognised by all the people in the shared services sector that I work with and respect. Although this is an individual award you will all know that everything we accomplish in shared services is down to teamwork. My team is as committed and as enthusiastic as I am and it is because of our teamwork at Xansa that we have been able to deliver service excellence for our clients."
