HBOS

Case study: HBOS

The Business Challenge

When Bank of Scotland wanted to transform the heart of its banking business, the group decided on a far-sighted approach to reappraise and re-engineer its core business processes.

Our Approach

The result was First Banking Systems, or FBS, a pioneering joint venture between Xansa and the Bank of Scotland. The partnership's goal was to integrate technology and business processes across the entire Bank of Scotland group. The successful joint venture continued after Halifax Bank of Scotland formed in 2001.

Making it Work

Directors from both Xansa and Bank of Scotland headed FBS. Together, the two companies shared the risk and reward in setting the strategic direction for the introduction of new technologies. A common technology platform developed by FBS and other partners allowed the bank to introduce a new call centre and Internet systems.

Delivering Results

FBS launched an online mortgage service in the Netherlands. An innovative mobile banking service and the first release of the bank's new online home banking service followed. During 2003 alone, FBS beat all service levels. Overall, productivity rose 32 per cent and aided the rapid change required in the bank's core processes. Xansa played a major role in the creation of a Core Banking System for the business banking arm of HBOS with teams working in the UK and India.

"Xansa remains one of our key service providers. The highly skilled team has worked with us to successfully deliver real business benefit through large and complex system integration programmes that will hold HBOS in good stead. The bottom line is that even in challenging times, Xansa has professionally delivered tangible business benefits for HBOS."
