Working with the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) Foundation, Xansa provided the human and financial resources to set up five Rural Knowledge Centres (RKCs) in the Kanchipuram district. RKCs are multi-purpose community centres with three to five internet-connected computers, a web camera, scanner and printer. A typical RKC is staffed by a trainer and centre manager and provides the local community with training and capacity building. It offers information and knowledge systems linked to livelihoods, life and health skills education, e-learning, community-based disaster preparedness and entrepreneurship development. Our clients have also helped in this effort, with Yorkshire Water donating laptops to the RKCs.
